📖 A Community Tradition Since 2003

The Friends of the Eugene Public Library hosted their first formal book sale over two decades ago, and it’s grown into one of the largest and most eagerly awaited literary events in the Willamette Valley. Since 2003, the sale has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support critical programs at Eugene’s public libraries.

Each year, the Friends receive and sort tens of thousands of donated items from community members and local organizations. The proceeds from these donations fund children’s reading programs, cultural events, summer reading initiatives, and essential resources that would otherwise go unfunded.

💬 A Message from the Friends

“The annual sale is about more than just books—it’s about community,” said a spokesperson for the Friends. “We’re proud to see Eugene turn out in such numbers each year to support literacy, equity, and lifelong learning. Every dollar spent directly strengthens our library system.”

🔍 What You’ll Find

From best-selling novels and vintage classics to cookbooks, children’s books, and out-of-print gems, there’s something for every kind of reader. In addition to books, shoppers can find puzzles, games, maps, art books, and other surprises—all sorted by genre and category for easy browsing.

🛍 Pro Tips for Shoppers

  • Come Early: The best deals and rare finds go quickly on Saturday morning.

  • Bring a Tote or Box: Or grab one on-site (quantities limited).

  • Sunday = Big Savings: Everything is 50% off on day two.

  • Cash or Card: Most major payment methods are accepted.

  • Support Beyond the Sale: Consider becoming a member of the Friends or volunteering at future events.

🚨 Why This Year Matters

The 2025 sale arrives as the Eugene Public Library faces serious budget concerns. Proposed cuts could reduce open hours and staff availability—impacts that could especially affect underserved populations who rely on the library for internet access, job searches, and educational programming.

Attending the book sale this year isn’t just fun—it’s a form of civic engagement.
