Eugene, OR – April 15, 2025 – From the streets of downtown to the mirrored studios across Lane County, Eugene is ready to move. National Dance Week kicks off this Friday, April 18, igniting a citywide celebration of rhythm, creativity, and community. For ten exhilarating days, local dancers, studios, and cultural organizations will unite to showcase everything from ballet and hip-hop to global dance traditions, contemporary choreography, and everything in between.
Whether you’re a trained dancer, a toe-tapper, or someone who simply loves to watch others express themselves through movement, National Dance Week in Eugene offers something special—something that will move you, literally and figuratively.
💃 What is National Dance Week?
National Dance Week (NDW) is a nationwide celebration held each spring to honor the art of dance and make it more accessible to the public. What began in 1981 as a grassroots initiative has grown into a vibrant cultural movement celebrated in communities across the U.S.—and Eugene has long been one of its most enthusiastic hosts.
Locally, NDW has evolved into a uniquely Eugene-style festival that blends professional performances, free community classes, open rehearsals, youth showcases, flash mobs, and cultural dance experiences into a joyful and inclusive week of movement and expression.

🌟 Why It Matters: Dance as a Unifier
Dance transcends language. It builds bridges across generations, cultures, and backgrounds. In Eugene—a city known for its artistry, activism, and openness—dance becomes a vehicle for expression, healing, joy, and connection.
During National Dance Week:
-
Studios open their doors to the public, many offering free or pay-what-you-can classes.
-
Professionals and amateurs share the stage, often performing side-by-side.
-
Cultural equity is front and center, with efforts to highlight traditional and Indigenous dance forms in respectful and meaningful ways.
From small-town studios to internationally trained performers, Eugene’s dance community steps up (and out) to show that movement truly is for everyone.
🧡 A Word from the Community
“National Dance Week is about showing that dance doesn’t belong to the elite—it belongs to all of us,” says Jocelyn Ramirez, organizer and founder of Community Pulse Dance Collective. “Whether you’ve danced for 20 years or 20 minutes, there’s a place for you in this celebration.”
Parents, kids, college students, retirees, and visitors are encouraged to participate—no judgment, no pressure, just movement and community.
