Eugene, OR – April 2025 – Every child deserves a safe and loving home, yet too many in our community face the harsh realities of abuse, neglect, and uncertain futures. That’s why this April, in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a trusted local business is stepping up to make a difference where it truly count by supporting CASA of Lane County.

Throughout the month, Jerry and Walt’s Complete Auto Care, a family-owned auto repair shop in Eugene, is hosting a month-long fundraiser to benefit CASA of Lane County. From April 1 through April 30, they will donate 10% of all labor fees from front-end suspension repairs, alignments, and air conditioning service or repairs directly to CASA.

This partnership is a powerful example of what can happen when local businesses align their services with causes that matter—especially those that protect and uplift the most vulnerable among us.

Why CASA of Lane County? The Power of Advocacy for Children in Foster Care

CASA—which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates—is a national network of programs that recruit and train volunteers to serve as the voice for children in the foster care and court systems. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. These volunteers get to know the child personally and act as a consistent presence in their lives, often when no one else is.

CASA of Lane County, founded in 1994, is one of hundreds of local programs across the U.S. working to give children a fighting chance at a better life. The work these volunteers do is nothing short of transformative. While caseworkers, lawyers, and foster parents may come and go, CASA volunteers stay with each child throughout the court process, advocating for their needs in school, health care, and placement. They make recommendations to judges, provide critical emotional support, and ensure that no child gets lost in the system.

Every child who has experienced abuse or neglect needs someone who will stand by them and speak up for them. CASA of Lane County has helped thousands of children over the years—but the need remains great. More volunteers are needed. More funding is needed. And that’s why fundraisers like this one matter.

Child Abuse Prevention Month: A Time for Awareness and Action

April is designated as National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to recognize the importance of communities working together to strengthen families and prevent child maltreatment. Awareness campaigns and fundraisers across the country aim to educate the public and provide resources to support at-risk children.

In Oregon, where many counties continue to see high numbers of children entering the foster system, the work of organizations like CASA is more critical than ever. That’s why community support—whether through volunteering or fundraising—is key.

By choosing to support a local business that’s taking direct action, customers at Jerry and Walt’s are doing their part in preventing child abuse and supporting long-term, compassionate care for kids who need it most.
